The Hochelaga Lectures 2016: Freedom of Expression for Those Who Wish to Destroy Freedoms for Others

In a July 2015 speech, the British Prime Minister David Cameron suggested that there was a clear trend for individuals to move from non-violent to violent extremism. He argued that it was consequently important for Governments to confront non-violent extremism and foster a greater sense of national identity. In this connection, the UK Government is proposing to introduce legislation to impose restrictions on the espousal of extremist views. In his Hochelaga Lecture, Lord Pannick will examine how democratic societies should respond to non-violent extremism.
