SYNOPSIS:

Since the post-World War II creation of the modern international human rights system, human rights norms,mechanisms and practice continue to evolve to address dynamic global developments and ongoing and newhuman rights challenges.In this talk, Visiting Professor Sharon Hom will examine key current normative andstructural debates, with a focus on the UN treaty body system and the special procedures (independent expertsand working groups).Discussion of illustrative concrete examples will provide insights into the role of differentstakeholders — states and non-state actors, such as international non-governmental organisations (INGOs), non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and civil society more broadly.
