Patent trolls are a significant problem in the US. In contrast, to date there does not appear to be a reported case on patent trolls in Japan. Nonetheless, one must expect that Japan will not be spared from the phenomenon of patent trolls. This talk will consider the current patent regime in Japan and whether Japanese companies should be taking steps (and, if so, what steps) to deal with patent trolls in the future.
