Abstract: Nearly 45,000 individuals die in Hong Kong each year. In the majority of cases, they die in the public hospitals and the body will be collected by family members. Most bodies in Hong Kong are cremated. What should the hospital authorities do with “unclaimed” bodies? What legislation should they abide by? Is a legal practice acceptable?
